Really! In spite of the snow and cold weather, we are in the final weeks of this school year. This is also the busiest time of the year. I have many calendar items for you that I hope will make the next four weeks more manageable for your family. Next week we have RISE testing. May 14, 15, and 16. This is for 7 th and 8 th grade students. Ninth grade students will be working with their teachers and maybe in a different part of the building so we can maintain testing conditions for our younger students. There is a great deal of work that goes into arranging for these tests. I am pleased to announce that our Foods Lab (where our cooking classes are held) now has an allergy-free zone. The utensils will be isolated from allergens, there will be careful screening of ingredients and we will do our best to maintain the integrity of this area. We hope that this, along with your students’ willingness to inform us about allergies and to ask relevant questions, will help us keep our students safe. Most of our 9 th graders are planning on participating in Lagoon Day on May 29. For our 9 th grade, school will be held at Lagoon; most of our 9 th grade teachers will need to go as chaperones, so no 9 th grade classes will be held that day. Parents of 9 th grade students will get a separate Skyalert message outlining everything. Failing notices will be posted on Skyward on Friday, May 10. These notices are to let students and their parents know of any grades that could be problematic. If you have questions, please reach out to your children’s teachers. They want your children to pass their classes, too. Just a reminder that most teachers will need all late assignments and tests made up by May 24 th . Please encourage your students to be aware of what they need to do to get the grades they really want. If your student would like to participate in our Summer School classes, (June 10-14) now is the time to sign up! We are excited to be able to offer some enrichment activities, some Advanced Placement Prep classes, as well as credit recovery opportunities. Ninth grade students who have failed English/Language Arts, PST/PE, World Geography, Math, or Science are expected to attend summer school. Space is limited, so sign up soon! Here’s the QR code for registration. Beginning June 3, our office hours will be changing. We will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Of course, teachers won’t be available, but we will have some office staff throughout the summer and at least one administrator should be here through June – until we have to vacate so the offices can get their annual deep cleaning. School is out for 8 th and 9 th graders on May 31. It’s only a half day that day. We will have a cold breakfast available, but no lunches will be served. School hours for that Friday are 8:00 a.m. to noon. There will not be formal classes, but students are welcome to bring memory books to sign and some classes will have end-of-the-year activities. All students should be in their assigned classrooms during class time that day. Busses will pick up students at their usual Monday-Thursday morning time. School is out for 7 th graders at 3:00 on May 30. That will be the day memory books are distributed and we will be having Awards Assemblies, as well as our Field Day activity. It’s going to be memorable. This is the season of last performances, final tests, and celebrations. While this time of year is busy, it is also a time when I realize how many students, I have been able to get to know and really like.
